EPOP survey data is available for researchers to explore, analyze, and share findings on entrepreneurship in the US. Public use files (PUFs) are comprehensive data sets available to the general public without restriction. PUFs are fully anonymized, meaning that the risk of re-identifying survey respondents is negligible. This data supports analysis at national, state, and regional levels.
To request EPOP PUFs, please complete the form below and agree to the Conditions of Use. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
When the request form is submitted, the EPOP research team will email you instructions on accessing the PUF data package which includes:

NORC at the University of Chicago announces the release of the public use data files and initial findings from EPOP:2024, the third year of the EPOP Survey. The EPOP Survey is an annual, cross-sectional, nationally representative study of about 30,000 U.S.-residing adults. Among other findings, EPOP:2024 data reveals that American entrepreneurs rely heavily on personal financial resources, rather than institutional funding, to launch their businesses.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation compiled this 2025 Staff Report for Congress. The Office hopes that this report, which includes EPOP data, will help small businesses, investors, and all who support them to understand how capital is being raised and invested, and by whom.
